Who would have expected cold temps and high winds in Florida. Well, I guess it’s nothing new for Floridians who are used to the climate here. But I was quite surprised–unpleasantly so. After arriving on Saturday the 8th, my wife and I found our way to our condo, changed clothes (shorts and a light shirt–what else!), and took off for the ball park to take in a couple of baseball games. Well–baseball fields are always in the open and if there is the slightest breeze, it is magnified by a factor of ten compared to a residential area. Standing along the sidelines in a stiff wind and very cool temperatures, we soon grew cold. As the day wore on, it became colder. Finally, we could only sit through the third inning of the second game before we had had enough. We headed for home. Later that night, a weather forecast said temps would be dipping to 40. Wow! Seems more like Minnesota. Being from Minnesota, we just naturally think everywhere else in the country is warm. T’ain’t so! I have to remember to pack something with long sleeves. You just never know. While the cool weather caught us by surprise, it warmed up by Monday for our bicycle trek through Bear Island in the Big Cypress National Preserve–a most enlightening excursion. And temps for the rest of the week will reach the 80s, which is quite normal for this time of year.
